Praying for a healthy heart is always important, for our own health and for the sake of those around us. Although it is but the flesh, we should take care of our bodies. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20: “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
Heart health is extremely important because the heart is a vital organ that is responsible for pumping blood throughout the body. When the heart is not functioning properly, it can lead to serious health problems such as heart disease, heart attack, and stroke.
Maintaining good heart health is important for everyone, but it becomes increasingly important as we age. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States, so it is important to take steps to protect your heart health.
There are many things you can do to maintain good heart health, including eating a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, not smoking, and managing stress. It is also important to get regular check-ups and screenings to detect any potential problems early on, so that they can be treated before they become more serious.
Who is the Patron Saint of Heart Health?
Although our heart is very important to all of us, many Catholics don’t know who the patron saint of heart health is. The patron saint of heart health is none other than the founder of the Hospitaller Order: Saint John of God.
Who was St. John of God?
St. John of God was a Catholic saint and the founder of the Order of Hospitallers, a religious order of men devoted to the care of the sick. He was born in 1495 in Portugal and spent much of his life as a soldier and a shepherd. He had a conversion experience in his mid-30s and began to devote himself to helping the poor and the sick.
St. John of God established a hospital in Granada, Spain, where he and his fellow Hospitallers cared for the sick and the injured, regardless of their ability to pay. He was known for his compassion and his dedication to serving those in need, and he became known as the “Patron of the Sick.”
St. John of God was canonized in 1690, and he is now considered the patron saint of hospitals, the sick, and the dying. He is specially venerated as the patron of heart-related issues.
Prayer to St. John of God for Heart Health
You were known for your compassionate care of the sick and your devotion to serving those in need. I ask for your intercession today for healing of my heart and for all those who suffer from heart-related issues.
Please watch over and protect me from all harm and illness, and grant me the strength and courage to face any challenges that come my way. May your example of selfless love and service inspire me to be more loving and caring towards others.
